Josep Acebillo, a reference in architecture for Barcelona District. The Petrosyan Group’s project in Tashkent has an outstanding signing. Josep Acebillo (Huesca, 1946), the man who designed the great urban transformation of Barcelona, capitalizing on its status as host of the 1992 Olympic Games, joins Petrosyan Group to bring the style of the Catalan city to Uzbekistan. Acebillo will be the head of architecture and urban planning consultant to give a distinct Mediterranean accent to the city.

Who is Josep Acebillo? This architect, born in Huesca, is a reference in the sector. He was the director of urban projects for the Barcelona District Council between 1988 and 1994, with Pasqual Maragall as the Mayor. As technical director of the Municipal Institute of Urban Development, he was in charge of planning and coordinating the building works of Barcelona 92, a turning point in the urban transformation of the city. The Olympic event is considered the key point in transforming Barcelona into a world reference and one of the major points of interest for global tourism. After a time of rest, he is now involved in Barcelona District and its ambitious project returning to the architectural front line.

Acebillo was also the CEO and director of the Metropolitan Agency for Urban and Infrastructure Development of Barcelona until 2011. This benchmark architect has shared his knowledge through books, as a commissioner of exhibitions and as a professor, both in Spain and in Italy and Switzerland.
Now he puts all his talent at the service of Uzbekistan through Barcelona District and the Petrosyan Group. He will set the fundamental lines of the new works in Tashken as an urban architect.

Barcelona District is urbanizing a 200-hectare site, with the style of Barcelona in the heart of Uzbekistan, to help this country to become the international center of Central Asia. Petrosyan Group, together with Silk Venture -a strategic partner in the management of the project- will start a first development of 60 hectares, which will accommodate up to 40 residential buildings and skyscrapers up to 50 floors high.
